Sandalwood That Doesn’t Turn Milky

A lot of sandalwood scents go creamy to the point of smelling like lotion. This one stays woody. Cypress and myrtle open it dry and green, a little rose softens the transition, and sandalwood with cedar holds the middle where you want it — resinous, faintly pencil-shaving, warm without being sweet. Brazilwood, spice and amber close it with a glow rather than a cream.

It is the warm scent for people who do not like warm scents.

• Opening: cypress, myrtle, rose — dry, green, a touch floral
• Heart: sandalwood and cedar — resinous, woody, softly warm
• Dry-down: brazilwood, spice, amber — a low warm glow

The spice is what keeps it from going flat. It is subtle — felt in the back of the nose rather than tasted — but without it the woods would read as furniture polish.

Bedrooms, lounges, libraries and dining rooms. It is a cold-weather scent by nature, but it works year-round in air-conditioned interiors.

No. It is dry and resinous rather than creamy — the cypress and cedar keep it that way.
